MONTHLY DIARY. SINAI MUDIRIA, May 1909

          Works - Work was commenced on the 15th at putting into repair the offices at El Arish, which have been in a bad state for a long time.

          Inspection and Moves - The Mudir returned to Nekhl on the 9th, and proceeded to Cairo again on the 19th, returning to Nekhl on the 28th.

          The detachment of the 5th Battalion was relieved by a detachment from the 8th Battalion, the former leaving for Cairo on the 8th.

          Police - Thirty police went through preliminary musketry drills during the month.

          Health - Generally good. Sporadic cases of measles occurred during the month at Al Arish, 10 being treated. Twenty seven deaths occurred from entero-colitis, a complication or after effect of the disease, possibly avoidable if cases were invariably reported for treatment.

Weather - The weather has been generally most drying.
